Frequently Asked Questions
How do I capture a specific section of a web page?
Tap the Select button in the bottom toolbar to activate block detection mode. SmartShot will scan the page and detect all HTML elements. Then simply tap on any element to select it. The selection automatically snaps to the nearest block boundary. You can select multiple blocks, then tap Capture to screenshot the combined area.
How do I take a full-page long screenshot?
Tap the Full Page button and choose Export as Long Image. SmartShot will automatically scroll through the entire page, capture each section, and stitch them together into a single long image. A progress overlay shows the real-time capture status.
What is the difference between 9-Grid and Horizontal Slice?
9-Grid splits your image into a grid layout (2x2, 3x3, etc.), ideal for posting square images on social media. Horizontal Slice cuts a long screenshot into equal-height segments from top to bottom, making it easy to share long content in multiple messages. SmartShot automatically detects long images and suggests the best mode.
How does text extraction work?
After capturing a screenshot, tap Text in the preview screen. SmartShot analyzes the web page structure to identify the main article content, then extracts clean text with headings, lists, and quotes preserved. You can switch between Markdown and plain text views, and export as .txt or .md files.
How do I use SmartShot from Safari?
While browsing in Safari, tap the Share button, then select SmartShot from the share sheet. The URL will be sent directly to SmartShot. If you don't see SmartShot in the list, scroll to the end and tap More to enable it.
Why is my screenshot blank or white?
This can happen if the page hasn't fully loaded before capture. Try increasing the Load Wait Time in Settings. Some pages with heavy JavaScript content may need 2-3 seconds to fully render. Also ensure you have a stable internet connection.
What does the Expand button do?
Expand selects the parent container of the currently selected element. For example, if you selected a paragraph, tapping Expand will select the entire section that contains it. Siblings selects all elements at the same level, such as all items in a list or all cards in a row.
Does SmartShot work offline?
SmartShot requires an internet connection to load web pages. However, all capture, splitting, text extraction, and export operations are performed entirely on your device with no server connection needed.
How do I export a PDF with multiple pages?
After capturing a long screenshot, tap PDF in the preview screen. SmartShot automatically splits the image into A4-proportioned pages. Short captures are exported as a single page, while long captures are divided into multiple pages for easy printing.
Does SmartShot collect my data?
No. SmartShot does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. All operations are performed locally on your device. No analytics, no tracking, no ads. See our Privacy Policy for details.
System Requirements
SmartShot requires iOS 17.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone and iPad.
Known Limitations
- Pages that require login cannot be captured without first signing in within the built-in browser.
- Some websites with strict Content Security Policy may block JavaScript injection, which can affect block detection.
- Very large pages (over 20,000 pixels tall) may take longer to capture and produce large files.
